Several historically Black colleges and universities(HBCU) were placed on lockdown Thursday afternoon after receiving threats. This comes one day after the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk and coincided with the 24th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks.
Authorities have not released details regarding connections between the events.
Virginia State University, Alabama State University and Hampton University confirmed lockdowns Thursday morning after alerts were sent to students, faculty and staff.
Clark Atlanta University issued a shelter-in-place order around 12:15 p.m. EST, prompting the entire Atlanta University Center to go in shelter-in-place.
Law enforcement agencies are investigating the threats, though officials have not publicly identified a motive.
At approximately 1:50pm, the shelter-in-place was lifted for the Atlanta University Center.
