@morehouse1867’s student-led news org, The Maroon Tiger is the no. 1 award-winning HBCU newspaper. The organ of student expression since 1898.

ATLANTA, GA – For decades, HBCU athletes have prod ATLANTA, GA – For decades, HBCU athletes have produced elite results across multiple sports, often matching or surpassing their PWI counterparts, yet the level of national recognition rarely reflects that reality. The issue isn’t talent, it’s visibility.

From Olympic legends to present-day competitors, HBCUs have consistently developed world-class athletes. Names like Edwin Moses, Walter Payton and Ben Wallace all began their journeys at HBCUs, yet their origins are often overlooked in mainstream sports conversations.

That disconnect is something current athletes experience in real time.

That vision belongs to Joseph “Joe” Carlos III, a former Maroon Tiger sports editor and a 2004 Morehouse graduate who saw more than student success.

He saw the importance of documenting legacy. He went on to create and publish the first Man of the Year issue, establishing what would become one of The Maroon Tiger’s signature traditions.

ATLANTA, GA – The intersection of professional spo ATLANTA, GA – The intersection of professional sports, personal faith and public accountability has once again become a flashpoint for debate. Following a series of social media broadcasts that many have labeled homophobic and exclusionary, the Chicago Bulls officially waived guard Jaden Ivey on March 30. The move comes as the league grapples with where the line is drawn between a player’s private religious conviction and their public obligation to a diverse workforce.

ATLANTA, GA. – The Morehouse College community cel ATLANTA, GA. – The Morehouse College community celebrated Reverend Dean Lawrence Edward Carter Sr., PhD, as he nears the end of his tenure.

ATLANTA – Historically Black Colleges and Universi ATLANTA – Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) punch far above their weight.

HBCUs enroll just 9 to 10 percent of Black undergraduates. They produce roughly 20 to 25 percent of all Black STEM graduates. Despite that impact, they receive less than 1 percent of the nation’s $60 billion in federal research funding. Lawmakers now aim to close that gap through new legislation.

Sens. Raphael Warnock ’91 (D-Ga.) and Katie Britt (R-Ala.) introduced the HBCU Research Capacity Act. The bipartisan bill would create a centralized federal clearinghouse. The system would help HBCUs identify and apply for research grants.
