Morehouse College rose to No. 3 among Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) in the annual Best Colleges list, two spots ahead of last year’s ranking.
The ranking places Morehouse behind Spelman College, which has held the No. 1 spot for 19 consecutive years, and Howard University at No. 2.
In addition to its No. 3 ranking, Morehouse was also ranked No. 1 for Best Value HBCUs and tied with Spelman at No. 1 for Most Innovative HBCUs nationwide. The College also maintained its position at No. 2 for HBCU business programs, among other distinctions. U.S. News & World Report compiles its rankings using school data and distinct methodology.
The 2025-26 school year has been a milestone for Morehouse. The jump into the top three adds to a surge in applications, with Morehouse receiving a record 6,217 for the Class of 2029. That growth helped yield one of the largest freshman classes in recent history. The increase in demand also made admissions more selective, with their acceptance rate falling 33%, down 11 percentage points from 2024.
