Senior Day at B.T. Harvey Stadium was meant to be a celebration, but it ended in disappointment as Morehouse fell 28–17 to Allen University on Saturday afternoon.
The Maroon Tigers showed flashes of promise throughout the game but couldn’t capitalize on key opportunities. Missed chances in the red zone and a handful of costly turnovers made it difficult for Morehouse to keep the momentum against an Allen team that found ways to create big plays.
Allen’s special teams set the tone early when DeJuan Hughes blocked a Morehouse punt that was recovered for a touchdown in the end zone. Running back Fabian Duncan followed with a two-point conversion, giving the Yellow Jackets a 14–7 advantage heading into halftime. Tight end Mike Bowman later broke free for a 75-yard touchdown catch to extend the lead out of the break.
Morehouse opened the game strong with a 3-yard touchdown run from Nicholas Woodford to cap a methodical first-quarter drive. Allen quarterback Jamir Dismukes responded with a 49-yard touchdown pass to Marcus Fleming, the first of two scoring connections between the pair. The Maroon Tigers then blocked the extra point to hold a narrow 7–6 lead after one quarter.
Although the team struggled offensively, Quarterback Miles Scott threw for 352 passing yards and recorded a rushing touchdown. On top of that, Scott made history by breaking the record for the most single-season passing yards in school history, which was previously held by Ruben DuPree in the 2006 season.
Even with the loss, Senior Day brought emotional moments as teammates and fans honored the graduating class for their leadership and commitment to the program.
Morehouse will look to close the season on a high note when it faces Clark Atlanta University in the annual Battle of the Big Cats rivalry game on Saturday, Nov. 8, at 6 p.m. at Panther Stadium.
