Man of the Year: The Future – Olamide Fagbamiye
Shakim Muhafiz, Staff Writer
His passion is giving back to his community. A man who represents the future of Morehouse and his people.
Good grades isn’t enough. He wants to do more than being active in school. Olamide Fagbamiye wants to help others so their lives can be better.
“Coming to Morehouse, we’re here to do well,” Fagbamiye said. “We’re all here to go out in the world and change a problem.”
Fagbamiye went deeper than going out in the community and picking up trash. He’s trying to change lives.
“I work with this mentoring program called the Strong Start Reading Program,” he said. “Every Wednesday I go to Tuskegee Global Airmen Academy and I read to two first graders… and just be a mentor to them.”
With his work, Fagbamiye isn’t concerned about the accolades. It’s about the people more than anything, but he wants change on campus too. Advocating for the little changes could have a big impact and he believes it starts with his class.
“Morehouse serves us as mediocre sometimes,” he said. “Brazeal has the most people on campus, why is it just one boiler in our dorm?”
One boiler in Brazeal Hall means students can’t have the hot showers every time. Fagbamiye wants Morehouse to step it up when it comes to the little things.
The future is bright for Fagbamiye. The man who calls himself a child of God is a future leader in society and a mentor to the next generation.
