The first half was promising from Morehouse as they went toe-to-toe with the Tuskegee, but a second half collapse offensively, resulted in Morehouse coming up short in the Morehouse-Tuskegee Classic.
The Tuskegee Golden Tigers defeated the Morehouse Maroon Tigers 31-14. This was their first win of the classic since 2019 and the Golden Tigers are currently 8-2 against Morehouse in their last 10 matchups.
In the first half of the game, Morehouse played one of their best halves of football this season. In the second quarter alone, Morehouse’s offense led by junior quarterback Derrach West put up 14 points and converted on the 2-point conversion to make up for redshirt freshman, Olubade Baker’s blocked field goal to give the Maroon Tigers a 14-7 lead.
However, the momentum the offense generated shifted after the Maroon Tigers defense let up a touchdown at the end of the half to make the score level, 14-14.
“That first half was a battle,” head coach Ruffin said. “We made some adjustments in the second half and we came out and our guys executed the plan. I’m excited to bring that trophy home.”
After the second half, Morehouse did not score again and had trouble containing Tuskegee junior quarterback, Bryson Williams. Williams was later named, the Morehouse-Tuskegee Classic MVP, rushing for three touchdowns and throwing a passing TD.
“We set out to be 1-0 and that’s what we did,” Williams said.
The Maroon Tigers will look to get their first win of the season as they play Fort Valley State away next Saturday, October 15th.
