The Morehouse Maroon Tigers basketball team looks to make a strong push toward the championship as they start their playoff run with Lane College. On Wednesday, March 1, the Tigers will tip off at 7:30 against the Dragons on a neutral court in Savannah, Georgia. They played their way into the postseason with an overall 17-9 record and 14-7 in their conference.
The Tigers won their last ten out of eleven games and captured the number 1 seed in the east. The regular season win was topped off by a last-second shot allowing the Tigers to beat Allen University by a score of 61-58. This will be the second consecutive season where the Maroon Tigers have finished first in the SIAC east division.
Kerry Richardson looks to have a big game as he is the leading scorer for Morehouse, averaging sixteen points per game. The Tigers will also be looking for Ibn Williams to show up big. He leads the team in assists with 4.2 and hit the game-winning shot against Allen University
As for the Lane Dragons, Kelvin Allen is their top scorer, with 13 points per game. They will look to rebound from their last game against Miles College. They lost 58-43.
This will be a revenge game for Lane College although the teams are pretty evenly matched. The Dragons finished with a 14-12 record and 12-8 in their conference. The last meeting for the two teams came down to the wire with the Tigers finishing on top 66-64. Lane ended their season, 4th in the west standings and are looking to avenge the earlier season loss.
As for Morehouse, they look to pick up where they left off at the end of the season, by keeping their winning streak alive. A win for the Tigers means that Morehouse will advance and play the winner of Miles College vs Edward Waters.
