United States Vice President Kamala Harris is set to visit Morehouse College as the next stop of her “Fight for Our Freedoms” College Tour. The White House announced the vice president’s college tour aims to focus on issues that disproportionately impact young voters, such as reproductive freedoms, book bans, LGBTQ+ equality, climate change, and gun safety.
This will be her third and final stop at a Historically Black College and University (HBCU) along this venture. The Fight for Our Freedoms tour kicked off on the campus of Hampton University in Virginia. Vice president Harris is a graduate of Howard University. She also visited North Carolina A&T during this tour, the largest HBCU in the nation.
The Biden-Harris Administration has applied a consistent interest in the education of young voters on the issues before them. Vice President Harris has continued to be vocal on this topic.
“This generation is critical to the urgent issues that are at stake right now for our future,” she said in a statement issued by the White House. “It is young leaders throughout America who know what the solutions look like and are organizing in their communities to make them a reality.”
The “Fight for Our Freedoms” tour does not only visit Historically Black Colleges and Universities but will continue to stop at community colleges, apprenticeship programs, Hispanic-serving institutions, and state schools.
Vice president Harris has taken initiative to connect with the future leaders of this country with the intention to inspire scholars, such as our AUC students, to think critically and make educated decisions regarding our nation’s policies.
