During an exclusive screening at Regal Atlantic Station, HBCU students and alumni got a front-row seat to the adrenaline-pumping action of G20, Viola Davis’ latest political thriller. Marsai Martin (Serena Sutton) and Christopher Farrar (Demetrius Sutton) were in attendance, adding to the electric atmosphere of the night.
The event celebrated not only Black excellence in film but also the power of HBCU communities to generate conversations that will impact lives.
In the midst of uncertain futures and present-day challenges, G20 explores the corruption of Rutledge (Antony Starr). As Rutledge holds world leaders hostage to enrich himself through Bitcoin, United States President Taylor Sutton (Viola Davis) must navigate impossible choices to save her family and her country.
Throughout the film, Davis embodies both power and vulnerability, bringing depth to a commander-in-chief forced into action. She destroys an army of greedy individuals with strategic brilliance and unwavering resolve.
Additionally, G20 is a testament to the strength and resilience of Black women. The film challenges viewers to reflect on the weight of leadership and what true representation means. It also depicts the grace required to lead while breaking barriers.
In a world where Black women are often overlooked, G20 puts them where they belong — at the forefront.
If one line could summarize the film, it would be when Davis says “I’ve served my country in uniform. I’ll serve it again — right now.”
G20 is more than a movie — it’s a call to true service. A performance for the ages. Now streaming on Amazon Prime.
