In search of extending their winning streak, Morehouse faced off against Savannah State in a crucial matchup for SIAC playoff seeding. Entering the game, Morehouse stood at fifth in the standings, with Savannah State right behind at sixth.
Unfortunately for the Maroon Tigers, they could not get the job done on the road, falling to the Savannah State Tigers 24-16. With the loss, the teams have flipped spots, leaving Morehouse outside the top five in the playoff race.
At first, things appeared to be going in the right direction for Morehouse. Preseason first-team cornerback Carlos Dunovant gave the Maroon Tigers an early lead with a 20-yard fumble recovery for a touchdown.
However, the offense struggled throughout the game. Morehouse fumbled twice, and quarterback Miles Scott was sacked 10 times for a combined loss of 68 yards. The passing game also faltered, as Scott threw four interceptions.
Dating back to 2019, when the first matchup between these teams took place, Savannah State has had Morehouse’s number. After this loss, the Maroon Tigers are now 0-4 all-time against the Tigers.
Morehouse will look to bounce back as they return to Atlanta for their final home game of the season against Allen University on Nov. 1, with kickoff set for 1 p.m. at B.T. Harvey Stadium.
