Summer Walker began the promotion for her upcoming album, “Finally Over It” by partnering with Youtube in her “Finally Over It” dump truck tour in Atlanta. Her first stop was Morehouse College on Nov. 8. Students from Morehouse, Spelman College and Clark Atlanta University were invited to finally get over their “ex” by donating gently used clothing items.

Walker is an Atlanta native and released her debut album, “Last Day of Summer” in 2018. Since then, she has gained nearly 19 million monthly listeners on Spotify, she has been nominated for two Grammys, and in 2019, the Los Angeles Times referred to her as the new R&B “It Girl”.

The 89th Miss Maroon & White, Stoney McKnight was in attendance. She explained her excitement for everything this event offered.

“I enjoy how this wasn’t just a meet and greet but also an opportunity for students to donate their clothes and get involved with the community.”

Walker’s event included students giving away their “ex’s” clothes. Not only does this give students a chance to move on from their previous relationships, but they also can provide for their community.

“It’s a very beautiful event. [I like] how we get to give old clothes for charity,” said Brighton Chipley, a Morehouse College junior. “It’s important to do events like this for college students.”

Students were excited to see Summer Walker and hear her upcoming album on Nov. 14, but they also voiced their excitement for the entire idea of the event and the implications it has for the Atlanta University Center Consortium (AUCC).

“[I’m] happy to be here and happy I came,” said Daniel Potts, a freshman at Morehouse College. “I feel grateful for this opportunity. It shows the respect we get as an institution.”

Mia Nelson, a Spelman College sophomore shared a similar sentiment.

“It was a fun time connecting with other students at the event and in line, and it’s fun to see her. It’s nice to see HBCUs are on her mind.”
