Morehouse College Maroon Tigers saw its 10-game winning streak come to an end Thursday night in Forbes Arena, falling 73-72 to LeMoyne-Owen College Magicians in a tightly contested SIAC matchup.

Despite holding a 16-point second-half lead, the Maroon Tigers were unable to close out the game in the final minutes. A late three-pointer and forced turnovers from LeMoyne-Owen gave them the momentum before the Magicians sealed the win at the free-throw line, following back-to-back fouls from Morehouse in the closing seconds.

The loss marks Morehouse Basketball’s first defeat of 2026 and drops the Maroon Tigers to 14-8 overall. However, Morehouse remains undefeated in the SIAC East division at 8-0 and continues to hold first place.

Peters Leads Offensive Effort

Junior guard Brandon Peters lead the Maroon Tigers with 20 points, shooting an efficient 70 percent from the field and knocking down two three-pointers. Senior forward JerMontae Hill added 13 points, while senior guard Sincere Key contributed 12 points, shooting 57 percent from beyond the arc.

Morehouse’s offensive rhythm was evident early, fueled by fast-break opportunities and strong interior scoring. The Maroon Tigers attacked the rim with confidence, moving the ball effectively and applying physical defensive pressure.

Second-Half Shift

After controlling much of the contest, Morehouse struggled to maintain its cushion late. LeMoyne-Owen capitalized on timely mid-range baskets to erase the deficit and create a tense final sequence.

Head coach Larry Dixon took responsibility following the loss.

“We have to learn to respect and value each opponent on the court,” Dixon said postgame.

The defeat serves as a teachable moment for a Maroon Tigers squad that has built momentum throughout conference play.

Looking Ahead

Morehouse will look to rebound Saturday in a cross-division matchup against the Miles College Golden Bears. With the SIAC East lead still intact, the Maroon Tigers remain focused on sustaining their position atop the division standings and getting back in the win column.
