While at Spelman, Greer Wilson graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Language and Literature.

After graduation, Greer was introduced to the world of the Olympics after accepting a job as digital content producer for the Olympic publication, Around the Rings.

“It was a great fit with Around the Rings. I discovered my love of traveling while at Spelman,” Wilson said. “I got to continue exploring new countries when covering events.”

Greer traveled to Barcelona, Spain with the Student Affairs Global Experience program and also Ferrara, Italy for a summer semester.

Working with Around the Rings exposed Greer to various leaders across multiple Olympic federations and National Olympic Committees. Greer received an opportunity to cover the 2019 World Karate Federation Championship in Manchester, England in addition to the 2019 Pan American Games in Lima, Peru and the 2020 U.S. Olympic Marathon Trials.

“When I initially began my professional journey, I wanted to pursue local news. I think sometimes you have to be thankful that certain doors do not open for you,” Wilson said. “It never would have led me to my experiences today.” 

“It led to my passion for storytelling, sharing athlete’s stories with audiences, and creating content. I love the Olympic movement,” Greer said.

Following her tenure with Around the Rings, Greer worked as a digital media assistant with the United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee during the 2021 Summer Olympics in Tokyo.

One of the lessons Spelman taught Greer was the importance of networking which led to her career highlight of freelancing with NBC Sports. 

“I remember when I was in Lima waiting to interview an athlete following an event, I met the now editorial manager for NBC Sports,” Wilson said. “When I was applying to work there she remembered me from Lima and put in a good word.”

Greer began her freelance career with NBC Sports as writer for On her Turf, which highlights women’s accomplishments in sports. Greer also served as a freelance researcher working in NBC Sports Connecticut headquarters during the 2022 Winter Olympic Games. 

“The experience was so surreal. I remember the first day I stepped in the building and was filled with so much gratitude,” Wilson said. “I thought of the times I prayed for this moment, and was so grateful to God.”

Greer pushes students aspiring to work in the industry to not be deterred or discouraged by a no. 

“Great things take time and you will succeed if you keep working towards your goals and believe in yourself,” said Greer.
