The Atlanta Braves 12 hit night and stellar pitching from Charlie Morton helped them dominate in their win against the New York Mets 7-0. Marcell Ozuna’s big game was the focal point of the Braves scoring in tonight’s game and displayed why the Braves are favored to win the World Series.

The Braves are the best team in the league this year and look to capture their second world series title in three years. They have 82 wins on the season, and they have broken their franchise record with five players, with at least 25 home runs. They also have three pitchers with over 100 strikeouts, including their All-Star pitcher Spencer Strider that has 227 strikeouts on the season.

To start the game Marcell Ozuna recorded an RBI to bring in Austin Riley for a score to make it 1-0 in the bottom of the first inning. The Braves continued their dominance defensively with the help of their pitcher Charlie Morton, who threw 11 strikeouts in the game, only allowing two hits. This outing marked his 27th career game with 10 or more strikeouts and his third of the season.

The top of the fifth inning almost saw the Braves lose their lead. DJ Stewart hit a double for the Mets and Rafael Ortega was up to bat. Morton threw a pitch that was originally called a ball but was overturned to a hit by pitch and advanced Ortega to first base, and the Mets had two on base with two outs.

The crowd erupted with boos as the umpire’s changed the call. This put the Mets in scoring position with the score 1-0 Braves lead, the lead looked to be in jeopardy. In Braves fashion the team pulled through.

Danny Mendick stepped up to bat for the Mets and Morton threw a wild pitch that catcher, Sean Murphy, bobbled. Dj Stewart attempted to steal third but was picked off at second base to close out the inning.

At the bottom of the sixth inning, the Braves went on a four-score run with hits from Riley, Ozuna, Murphy, Micheal Harris II, and Vaughn Grissom that increased the score to 5-0 Braves lead. Morton closed out the top of the seventh inning with a strikeout to end his great pitching night.

The Braves would then solidify their victory after Ozuna’s two run homer in the bottom of the seventh. He finished the game 3-4, one home run, and four RBIs. He was the Braves best performer on the night in their 7-0 win.

The Braves will move on from the series with the Mets, as they play in San Francisco against the Giants on Friday. They look to continue to close the season out strong and move to the MLB postseason still the best team in the league.
