It’s that time of the year, and Morehouse Casa (Campus Alliance for Student Activites) just revealed the homecoming concert headliners for the Hip-Hop and Neo-Soul Concert. 21 Savage was named the headliner for the Hip-Hop concert and Ne-Yo was named the headliner for the Neo-Soul concert. The theme of homecoming this year is, “There’s no place like Spelhouse Homecoming.”
This is the first SpelHouse homecoming in three years with alumni ready to come back to their alma mater and with most students experiencing homecoming for the first time because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“I was pretty excited about 21 Savage,” said Morehouse sophomore Blake Beauvais. “I never got to experience homecoming, but I’ve seen the environment it becomes when everyone comes down here and I’m excited to take part in it.”
Class of 2023 is the only class that experienced the last SpelHouse homecoming with rapper Young Thug as the headliner in 2019. For the seniors at Spelman and Morehouse, they have already witnessed homecoming and are eager for homecoming season to be back in the AUCC.
“I’m excited. I like both of the artists so I’m gonna turn up,” said Spelman senior Pier Hammonds.
Morehouse’s CASA and Spelman’s Pulse (Programming for Unique and Lively Spelman Experience) worked diligently to make this happen for the SpelHouse student body.
Morehouse junior Chad Lockard talked about the work behind the scenes that made this homecoming reveal for the hip-hop and neo-soul concerts come to fruition.
“There’s a lot of work behind the scenes that y’all don’t see,” Lockard said. “A lot of negotiations, a lot of conversations with different brands and managers to try and give the best show for y’all. We’ve been planning for months including the theme, artists, lineups, and events.”
The Neo-Soul concert will be on Tuesday, October 18 and the Hip-Hop Concert will be on Wednesday, October 19.
