The Battle of the AUC Continues
By Christopher Doomes, Managing Editor
It’s that time of year again! The time when those students across the street become foes instead of friends and the endless smack talk and animosity begins.
The first matchup between the Morehouse Maroon Tigers and Clark Atlanta Panthers will tip-off this Saturday at 1:00 PM in Forbes Arena.
The Maroon Tigers have slightly dominated the rivalry recently having won the last two meetings with the Panthers, as well as having a 7-3 record against them over their last 10 matchups.
Morehouse will be entering the game with a record of 7-7, coming off of a tough road loss against Howard University this past Monday. They will also be without guards Andrew and Elijah Stewart for the second consecutive game.
Similar to their rivals across the street, CAU is coming off of a road loss suffered at the hands of Savannah State University. They enter Saturday’s game with a subpar 4-13 record.
Despite the Panthers having three fewer wins and 6 more losses, this game has implications regarding divisional seeding. As it currently stands the winner of this matchup will have a chance to claim fifth place in the division.
With key players like the Stewart brothers being injured, it will be interesting to see how Morehouse adjusts to its new rotations with bragging rights on the line. In fact, it was Andrew Stewart who led the way with 18 points for the Maroon Tigers in their last matchup against Clark.
It is expected to be a great back-and-forth game and a rocking atmosphere that is second to none, you don’t want to miss this!
