Morehouse College alumnus Alex Maganda ‘18 has been detained by ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) officials.
According to Capital B Atlanta, Maganda is being held at the Bluebonnet Detention Facility in Anson, Texas. The facility is listed as a prison under contract for ICE and operated by the Management and Training Corporation.
The news surrounding Maganda’s detainment was first broken on Facebook by JaMarcus Toomer ‘21, a close friend of his in Dallas. The outcry has since gotten the attention of both Morehouse and Spelman College’s 2018 class councils.
While attending Morehouse, Maganda was heavily involved on campus as a kicker on the football team, marketing manager for AUCCAM, LLC and a teaching assistant in the TRIO Upward Bound program.
Efforts to assist Maganda are ongoing and he is currently receiving legal counsel. If you or anyone you know are interested in supporting Maganda, his family and the class councils, you can reach them at bringalexhome2025@gmail.com.
This is a developing story.
