One day at a time is the slogan for this week for the Morehouse Football team. After a tough loss to a very good Virginia Union University team, the Maroon Tigers are taking it one day at a time.
This is not bad. The team is not licking their wounds. They are focusing on the task ahead by being better, one day at a time.
This week is a short week for the Maroon Tigers; the team did not get back to Atlanta until Monday after a Sunday afternoon game. This means two games in six days for the Maroon Tigers, who are looking forward to their matchup against Division 1 opponent Howard University.
In their last meeting, the Maroon Tigers fell short to the Bison 0-31 in Sept. 2022. Since then, Morehouse is searching for a new identity with new head coach Gerard Wilcher.
The Maroon Tigers are also flying for the second time in less than a week as they prepare for the second of six straight away games.
Nonetheless, Coach Wilcher is confident in his team heading into week two. Coach spoke to The Maroon Tiger about making adjustments but also understanding that there were a lot of first game mistakes. Wilcher does not expect to see these mistakes going forward.
Although changes will be made in some places, do not anticipate much change at the quarterback position. Coach Wilcher exuded much confidence in his quarterback, Derrach West.
“We’re going to do some things with him; we know Jaylen is dynamic. He’s a dynamic athlete, but Derrach is our quarterback,” Wilcher said when asked what fans should expect to see from backup quarterback Jaylen West this week.
“When we come, I know we pack it out. It’s going to be a tremendous atmosphere,” he said. “Our guys will be hyped up for the challenge, and it will be a tremendous challenge.”
Looking forward to the weekend, Morehouse vs. Howard should shape up to be an exciting matchup. Coach Wilcher is confident going into the game with a record of 2-1 against Howard.
