The Morehouse College Lacrosse Club Team started off their season in brilliant fashion with a 19-10 win over Dalton State. With a new season comes new players, and those players announced their presence flashily by combining for 13 of the 19 goals in the game. More importantly, the sensational play from the newer MCLCT members showed that the lacrosse program knows no boundaries.

“The new members on the team brought a different level of technical skill and gave the team quality subs,” goalie Dalvin Jordan ’21 said. “The speed around the goal made it hard for [Dalton State’s] defense to adjust.”

Freshman Rashad Townsend led all scorers with eight goals, while fellow freshmen Thaddeus Sabin (four goals) and Ian Joseph (one goal) rounded out notable contributions from the newer members of the offense. Returning players Corey Hernandez ‘19 (three goals), Cai Johnson ‘20 (two goals) and Khadeem Wilson ‘19 (one goal) worked together to almost reach the 20-goal milestone for Morehouse.

It was a tough game, but the Maroon Tigers’ energy and pressure could be felt anywhere on the field. The Tigers scored early and often, building up to a 9-2 lead at halftime. Defense matched the intensity throughout the whole game, using physicality to limit the opponents’ offense.

“This win is what we’ve been working on since last semester,” club president Khadeem Wilson said. “Being the graduating president, it makes me ecstatic to know that the team will move proficiently without my future presence.”

MCLCT returns to practice this week, taking notes and using the experiences of this game as a benchmark for the future. With games against Mercer University, Davidson College, and University of West Georgia coming up, the levels of competition will only increase. Regardless, it looks like the lacrosse program is ready to up the intensity.
